If this happens only to 1 or a few users, I would not modify GPO as it affects the entire Domain. Using edge, the same thing will happen: The default application for PDFs will change from Reader to Edge. I can report that this has nothing to do with Chrome. It only happens when logs onto this computer, which happens to be her work computer. If you log onto a different computer as her, the issue doesn't happen. If you log onto the computer as someone else, the issue doesn't occur. It's this 1 computer and user account combo this happens on. The hundreds of other users in our org are fine. Just to clarify once more, when the user selects browse for a file within Chrome, selects the PDF, the default application for PDFs changes from Reader to Chrome. I am looking for further suggestions before I hop on their computer again this afternoon. I have a couple ideas to try, including clearing their group polices and reapplying them and clearing the cache in Chrome. This is not happening to anyone else within the org, so I don't think it's a rogue group policy. Even Chrome is set to open PDFs in Reader, not itself.Īfter having the user repeat all of their tasks that involve a PDF, we have figured out what is causing this, and it's weird. The default application for PDFs is set within Windows. They report to me that after a certain period of time, the default application for PDFs is changed from Reader to Chrome (their default web browser, although this will happen in any web browser). The default application for PDFs is set for Adobe Acrobat Reader. I have a user in my org who is having an issue with app association with PDFs.
